This involves a harsh look at reality:

• Wrinkle creams will NOT make your lines disappear, for that you need botox or a face lift. 
• What's in the £100 creams that isn't in the £10 jar and is that new ingredient actually worth the £90?
• The best thing for saving your skin is changing your diet and exercising a bit more. Eat a balanced diet, with good fats and lots of fruit and veg and your skin will improve regardless of your moisturiser. 
• If any claims are backed up, who is backing them up and do they have a motive for doing so? Are they completely independent?

It can be very misleading. Unless it has been certified by the Soil Association, ECOCERT or other organic bodies take any remotely green or natural claim with a pinch of salt. 

My tips are:

I'm being slightly mean here. I've done this already. I know what I can and can't buy in Boots and Superdrug but I think it's better you try this for yourself than just head straight for what I say to. If anything, it will open your eyes to what lies ahead if you are serious about changing what you use. 

If you are shopping online, most natural companies will tell you that they don't use certain ingredients without you having to look because, again, natural brands will tell you what they do because they are proud of doing it.

Some websites have done all the hard work for you already and will state that none of their products contain certain ingredients. Others will provide a full ingredient list for each product for you to check yourself. 

What do you do if they say they use plant/natural ingredients and then don't give you an ingredient list or other statement? I err on the side of caution and treat the product as containing everything I hate. Much as I may want to, I can't prove otherwise!

Overall:

I LOVE the fact that 4 of these products are more natural products and they are in there because they work, not just because they are green. The Vinies Veda probably should have come with more in the way of instruction as we only got told the correct time and method of application and removal once people had had very bad reactions to it. Apart from that it was a great selection and well worth the money. 

Once you have made up your own mind on what you will and won't use (and which brands you will and won't use) then its time to see what you are going to do about it. 

Throw everything you own into the bin right now, regardless of how much is left or if it has even been opened. Go to a green shop/website and re-buy everything you own. 

OR

Take stock of your products and look at what is in them. The best,  most economic and greenest way is to use up what you have now, try and recycle its packaging and then replace with a green alternative. 

Don't feel guilty about not changing immediately, go at your own pace and if you slip up, accept it, then learn from it as you know for next time.

Even I slip up! I unwittingly believed a large US brand was "natural" from its many claims and prominent plant ingredient mentions, bought a set, got it home and then read the ingredients. The lip balm that is raved about? 90% petroleum jelly. Shampoo? SLES as second ingredient. Prominent plant ingredient? Halfway down the list, in a  lower concentration than 2 different preservatives.
